Leisure activities in Rostock / Warnemünde.

Ostseestrand Warnemünde

The beach of Warnemünde.

The Baltic Sea beach of Rostock / Warnemünde with its width of over 100 meters is considered the widest beach on the Baltic Sea coast and stretches over a length of more than 5 kilometers. An absolute specialty is the pier with a total length of 530 meters.

In 2009 Warnemünde was awarded the “Blue Flag”. This international seal of approval stands for verified water quality. The east beach, the west beach and also the main beach were awarded this seal. In the area of Warnemünde the water quality is from good to very good.

The lighthouse of Warnemünde.

Since 1897, the approx. 31 meter high lighthouse of Warnemünde rises into the air, which is still used today. The tower shines its light a whole 20 nautical miles (37 km) across the sea.

From May to September you can enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view from the lighthouse over the sea on two viewing platforms.

Next to the lighthouse is the Teepott of Warnemünde, designed in 1968 by the engineer Ulrich Müther. This shell-shaped building was renovated in 2002 and now houses several restaurants.

Leuchtturm Warnemünde
Alter Strom

The Alte Strom.

Originally an estuary of the Warnow, the Alte Strom was for centuries the shipping connection between the Baltic Sea and the Rostock city port.

Today, numerous cafés, restaurants, hotels, boutiques and a fishing port stretch along the water arm, which has existed since 1423. Due to the harbor reconstruction, the Alte Strom was replaced by the Neue Strom in 1903.

The Hanse Sail.

Every year the Hanse Sail takes place in Rostock. Every year on the second weekend in August, tall ships and traditional sailing vessels, cruise ships, ferries and other large seagoing vessels enter the port of Rostock.

During this traditional meeting numerous cultural and entertainment events take place in Warnemünde. The Hanse Sail is a must for every ship lover.
